  • maximum length – 110′
  • maximum width – 12′ (14′ for daylight transposing only)
  • maximum height  – 15′
  • maximum overhang – 15′ (25′ for daylight transposing only)

The cost of the permit is $60.

Nevada Wide Load Requirements

All loads wider than 8′ 6″ require an oversized permit issued by the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Oversize Load Flag Requirements:

All extremities of oversized loads must be marked with red or fluorescent orange 18″ square flags during daylight hours only.

Oversize Load Banner Requirements:

Nevada requires oversize vehicles or the ones hauling oversized loads to be equipped with “oversize” or “oversize loads” banners.

Oversize Load Sign Requirements:

Must feature 10″ black letters on the yellow background.

Oversize Load Lighting Requirements:

All oversize vehicles must move with low-beams on.

Two amber lights in the front and two midway side amber lights are a must at night time and in darkness. If the overhang reaches 4′, two amber lights are required to indicate the maximum width of the overhang. All lights must be visible from at least 500′.

Oversize Pilot Cars or Escort Vehicles Requirements:

Front escort:

  • width exceeds 12′ on two and three lane roads
  • front overhang exceeds 25′
  • height exceeds 15′ 5″ (also need clearance pole)

Rear escort:

  • width exceeds 14′ on four and more lane roads
  • rear overhang exceeds 25′
  • length exceeds 110′

Front and rear escort:

  • width exceeds 14′ on two and three lane roads

Nevada Wide Load Restrictions

All loads wider than 8′ 6″ are subject to the following restrictions:

Oversize Holiday Restrictions:

Unless otherwise mentioned in Nevada wide load permits, there are no specific Nevada oversize holiday restrictions for loads less than 12′ wide, 15′ high, 110′ long. However, in some cases, manufactured housing can be restricted to move on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Oversize Legal Travel Times Restrictions:

Oversized loads can be transported from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Loads less than 12′ wide, 15′ high, and 110′ long can be transported 24/7. Loads less than 14′ wide, 15′ high, and 110′ long can be transported on weekends.

There may be additional restrictions on some roads from February through April.

Oversize Road and Bridge Restrictions:

Nevada adheres to the Federal Bridge Formula that determines specific bridge restrictions. As for the oversize road restrictions, they come as the following:

  • driving through work zones that are under construction
  • neglecting warning signals when driving through work zones
  • not giving traffic priority to law enforcement, emergency vehicles, etc

Oversize Seasonal Weight Restrictions:

While the Frost Law is applied in many states and provinces of Canada, no specific seasonal restrictions are provided by the state of Nevada, excluding from February through April for some specific routes. They may appear in Nevada oversize load permits, arising from the nature and type of the load. Please also see the Spring Thaw/Frost Law Restrictions List.

Nevada Wide Load Limits

Nevada sticks to the Federal legal width limit of 8′ 6″. Everything wider requires a permit to be moved on public roads.

Maximum Load Limits Until a Trucking Permit Is Required:

8′ 6″ (from the outside points of the widest extremities, excluding safety devices)

Axle Weight Limits:

Legal axle weight limit:

  • Single axle: 20,000 lbs
  • Tandem axle: 34,000 lbs
  • Tridem axle: 42,000 lbs

The maximum permitted axle weight limit:

  • tandem axle (at least 36″ between axles) – 60,000 lbs (purple weight chart – single trip permits only)
  • use the Federal Bridge Formula for maximum axle weight calculations

Oversize Tire Regulations:

Maximum weight: 600 lbs per inch for steer axle tires, 500 lbs for all other tires

Tires must be in normal operating condition, properly inflated, and feature the minimum tread depth of 3/16″.

Tires must not feature protuberances of any material other than rubber unless their use is required for safety.

Nevada Fuel Permits

Every out-of-state commercial vehicle with a GVW exceeding 26,001 lbs or having three or more axles must obtain an IFTA permit. The cost of the permit is $31.

Nevada Specialty Permits

The need for special permits may arise from your load’s nature, size, and weight.

Amber Light Permits:

A Nevada light permit is required to drive with flashing revolving amber warning lights or  even have them installed but uncovered.

Special Purpose ODV or Super Load ODV Permits:

You must obtain such a five-day permit to move the loads exceeding:
